Raleigh Flying Club

Why Raleigh Flying Club?

Two Locations. One Passion for Flight.

Raleigh Flying Club was founded with a simple mission — to make flying more accessible, more social, and more rewarding for Triangle pilots. We started at Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) because we believed pilots deserve convenient access to top-tier training and aircraft right in the heart of the Triangle — not an hour’s drive away.

Today, our community has grown, and so have we.
We’re proud to announce our second location at Southern Wake Regional Airport (5W5) — bringing all the camaraderie, hangar-talk, and relaxed flying-club atmosphere that makes general aviation special.

RDU – Class C Base & Training Hub

Our RDU headquarters anchors the club at a major Class C airport, giving members and students access to the kind of real-world experience and facilities usually reserved for professional operations:

  • 15–20 minutes from most Triangle locations (Cary, Morrisville, Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill)

  • Full-service Class C airspace with multiple instrument approaches and tower operations

  • Easy ramp access and parking inside RDU’s general-aviation complex

  • Low member-to-airplane ratio — more availability, less waiting

  • Lower cost of flying than single-aircraft ownership

  • Integrated with Raleigh Professional Flight School for students pursuing full-path pilot training

RDU is where pilots refine their skills, advance their training, and experience the benefits of operating in a busy, professional environment.

5W5 – Community, Relaxation & Connection

Our Southern Wake Regional Airport (5W5) location adds a second dimension — a place where flying feels like spending the day at your local airpark. It’s a relaxed, welcoming environment where members can:

  • Meet other pilots, share stories, and enjoy the social side of aviation

  • Fly casually without the pace or structure of a Class C airport

  • Attend weekend gatherings, seminars, and fly-outs hosted by the club

  • Bring friends and family to enjoy a slower, more personal flying experience

It’s the perfect complement to our RDU base — one focused on community, friendship, and pure enjoyment of flight.
