Raleigh Flying Club

Q & A

It’s easy to join! We charge a $250 fee when new members join the club. Annual insurance is only $250 each year and then dues based on your membership level.

We are a flying club! We can also provide all the services of a flight school.
We do offer discovery flights! If you are interested in flying but want to check it out before committing then you are welcome to come out and take a flight with one of our certified flight instructors.
The FAA has specific limitations on a flying club, but we want to offer our members full instruction to pursue their goals. We are, as a FAA entity, a flight school. As a community, we want to keep operating as a club.
The club strives to maintain a healthy pilot-to-plane ratio. Weekends tend to see more activity. Generally speaking, with a little bit of forethought, we find most of our pilots are able to reserve a plane for their desired time with minimal issues.
We use an online scheduling site called FlightCircle. (www.flightcircle.com) Once you join, you will be given access to our schedule. After a brief checkout with an instructor, you are good to fly.
As of Fall 2022, we are around 145 members. At the present time, there is no waiting list to get in.
The process is pretty straightforward. Go to the contact form page, send us your information letting us know you want to join and we’ll send you the items we need to get you started. Once we have those items, we’ll give you access to our online scheduling/payment system to enter your information. Then we will put you in touch with our Chief CFI to schedule any checkouts (if you already have your license) or to begin training.
We have monthly coffee and donuts meet ups at the airport as well as quarterly club meetings. We also do fly-out to some pretty neat places, like the National Air & Space Museum at Dulles Airport, and do gatherings with Raleigh ATC from time to time. Many of our pilots also fly with each other to share the cost or to safety pilot.
No, you can fly as much as you want. We do have rolling scheduling limits so everyone gets fair access to the planes.
No, we do not do charter flights or flying for hire of any kind.
